The World God Only Knows: Goddesses Arc - 2

As much as I'd like to review this as fast as I can, my parents seriously dislike anime. I won't go into particularly deep reasons, but basically, I'm struggling between watching the episode, and minimizing the window so my parents won't see. Either way, I'll begin by saying Elsie has to live a double life pretending that she's Kanon, and trying to make sure this secret won't be exposed. Sounds quite like my double life, so I really can relate to, and feel sorry for Elsie.

'Your husband is on death's door...' followed by 'DARLING!!!!', possibly the bluntest, and most humorous method to dispatch your mother from the house. But it works, and flawlessly at that. Perhaps I should try that sometime too in the future. The plot starts to progressively thicken, with Keima trying to narrow down the list of Goddess suspects, and also being quite meticulously calculated (not to mention he's accurate too!). Manglobe did briefly gloss over all the girls who are inconsequential to the story, which was kind of annoying, but they've already been doing this for a long time now (skipping out on two entire arcs). I'd refer anyone to the manga if they require more detail to fill in the holes left by the anime adaptation. After all, there are a lot of unexplained, or unanswered problems that the manga goes to great lengths to discuss.

What I love about Keima is how he's so shameless. He can walk into the bathroom naked, while a naked girl is inside, whilst retaining his collected, calm demeanour. He can also go around telling girls he loves them, with almost little to no affect on his personal psychology. Confidence combined with genius intellect is truly fearsome to behold, not to mention being near perfection. Despite being a nerd, Keima also has the charm, and charisma to pull these kind of stunts off. He's symbolic of what every otaku wants to be, that is a guy who can be a complete and utter nerd, while being popular with the ladies. Unfortunately, anime is harshly distinct from real life. But I wouldn't give up hope, seeing as I know a couple of Naruto-nutters who are quite successful.

In short, Keima is investigating the Goddess suspects, who should be mad at him due to Kanon's outright confession to him, pressed by the time limit imposed by Kanon's status. Chihiro pours coffee over his head; Ayumi ninja kicks him into a couple of walls; Tsukiyo pretends not to know him, and pulps his face; Shiori hides behinda book; Yui suddenly pounces upon him in a seduction attempt; Haqua grabs his head, and plants it into a wall (Oh wait, Haqua isn't a suspect, getting a bit off track here). Anyway, all the girls show signs of anger, and familiarity with Keima, something only girls possessing Goddesses (thus retaining their memories of Keima's conquests) could possibly act. Herein, the problem lies in that there are 5 possible Goddess hosts, while there can only be 4 Goddesses. This means one of them is not a Goddess, and if Keima chooses to be careless, this could lead to a rather sticky situation. Trying to do the everything I just mentioned in the space of one day is not a promising sign.

One cannot envy the God of Conquests for the perilous predicament he is in. Over the course of a week, he has massive tasks to accomplish, not to mention there might not be another week to enjoy should the Goddesses be taken down from the shadows by Vintage. It is here an unlikely hero takes the helm, and shines. As Keima notes, these Vintage conspiracies are far from being coincidental. Though he seems to have taken a bold, risky move by significantly narrowing down his candidates, we're back in full Capturing God mode, and all the usual perks which are entitled to the role. With the story rolling along at a familiar pace, it won't be long before we're tangled in the climax of the Goddesses Arc.
