Kiniro Mosaic - 3

Standing on the lone horizon was McGullible. There, her friends joined her in an instant. Now, McGullible was having a tough time making friends in her class, possibly because she was newly transferred, mixed race, and rather withdrawn. After being tricked into believing there was a McStupid Cult, McGullible decided to give a speech to her class about how she wanted people to talk to her. With an initially slow start, it became a resounding success; everybody wanted to be friends with McGullible. And so they lived happily ever after.

PLEASE!!! Don't add Yuri to this...
Let me tell you why EVERYTHING in that story is UTTERLY wrong. For starters, no girl in England my age, or even 3 years younger, is that naive, or innocent. Secondly, mixed race children have absolutely no trouble making friends. In fact, they tend to be some of the most popular kids in schools (and I wouldn't think Japan would be such an exception). As for withdrawn, PFFFFT, more like Super Duper Alpha Female, and being THAT gullible? I'm sorry, but with the concept of Gullibility being a common weapon between the likes of 8 year olds, I myself would highly doubt English raised people would fall to such a little trick like that (I'm actually so shocked Alice managed to come up with something so stupid...). To add insult to the injury, that speech... If I were in that position, I would've easily wet myself in embarrassment. Making a cheesy speech that only a 3 year old could come up with is not very impressive, and every person burst out into applause (rather than laughter). What happened to teenage apathy, that is to say the age where teenagers couldn't give a care towards anything outside of their zone of interest???

Sparkling hair - a trait of an English lady
Did I forget to mention? McGullible is in fact our new character, Karen Kujo (oooooh JoJo reference???). A half-British, half-Japanese girl who was Alice's friend back in England. She comes to Japan, and enrolls in Alice and Shinobu's school. She often wears a Union Jack parka jacket over her school uniform, making her British heritage rather obvious. I don't think you can catch girls wearing that, after all, patriotism is an illusion in the face of teenage apathy... Just like to mention, projecting a Japanese dialogue over the background English conversation is not a good way to cover up the supposedly 'good', but starkly awful English, especially when the two girls in question are supposed to be native speakers. Still, a pretty smart trick, and something I would've thought of (but not something I'd necessarily use).
Strange, I thought her eyes were purple
Phew, end of rant. Other than that, every other dumb event in the episode managed to paint a golden smile on my face, rather than completely loosen my screw. Pictures > Words, so you'll see some of the gags scattered throughout this review. Although some moments didn't make me rage, a particular moment made me cringe in empathy. That's right, Alice's jealousy (to the point she asked Shinobu to run up a wall) Then to have it rubbed in when all the others recognize Alice as being jealous, and bluntly tell it to her face... Why??? Well, I can totally relate to that feeling where you feel so overly possessive of someone that you'd devote yourselves towards them, but even then, I felt as if an old wound had been reopened (same as to when I watched Watamote). Putting that asides, Alice was kawaii as hell, and her moe pouting really made my day. HNNNG was something that best described the situation.

More Lolis were on the way, with Shinobu and Yoko giving recounts (therefore flashbacks) on when they first met Aya. Yet another painful memory was invoked, when I saw Alice all alone as a transfer student. I had also been a transfer student in Y1 of my primary school, and found it hard to make friends. So yeah, then there was this guy who, like Yoko, dragged me into a mad mad world along with his friends. Children can be reaaaally craaaaazy. Parallel to these events, Alice and Karen had a touching flashback... ruined by how it was based on something as insignificant as a pencil. A PENCIL????!?!?

Kiniro Mosaic is shaping up to becoming one of the best SoL's of the year (and in my opinion, EVER). However, that is only once I look past all it's flaws, and factual errors, which somehow add to my enjoyment. Maybe it's the sadist within me laughing at how someone got something wrong, laughing at how stupid they are, laughing at how sad I am laughing at them being stupid. Looking forwards to how this will develop, it certainly has a lot of potential!

May I add that Jenga formation is impossibru
(I actually experimented in real life to check this)
