Kiniro Mosaic - 12

With the end of the season being juxtaposed by the beginning of a new year, Kiniro Mosaic burned the fire of hope in my soul for a second season, despite there being no official announcement made for one. In all hindsight, it would be depressing to simply just leave off at the start of a new year, without any plans to recommence the series. Not only will there be many disappointed, crestfallen fans should the production of a second season never happen, but for all I care, they could've just ended the series at the end of the year, rather than giving a glimmer of false hope. Anyhow, read on. Alleviation from my bleak, pessimistic optimism comes in the form of my long delayed review!

New Year, New Classes

'This sky is connected wherever we go.
Not even national borders can separate us!'
~ Alice Cartelet

Looks like Alice is in a different class from Shinobu

Contrary to her initial optimism, Alice begins to suffer from extreme withdrawal symptoms, mostly due to Shinobu's casual nonchalance, and calm approach to their separation. My pity solely extended to Yoko, who had to individually put up with being second string to Alice, whilst Shinobu and Karen could at least be second strings together. Perhaps not only did I pity Yoko, but my admiration for her steadily increased through the duration of the episode, considering she still went out of her way to appease Alice in the broadest sense possible.

Turning the eye of Sauron to Aya's predicament, she somehow ended up with half of her dear friends despite the overwhelming odds of not even ending up with one, and yet still complained at the lack of her most precious quarter, something Yoko found confusing. When thrown your lot in life, just be content with what you had. To be honest, the situation could've been far worse. However, I appreciate that Aya displayed more maturity compared to Alice, who probably hurt Yoko's feelings whilst throwing out a tantrum. Good thing she realised that, and apologised halfway through the episode. Perfect, hadn't it been for the hurtful Shinobu Doll...

The Return of the Convenient Seating Plan

Throughout the course of the series, the girls have always had miraculous luck when seating plans were involved. Originally, we had Aya and Yoko sitting side by side by a window, and Alice literally 'sharing' a desk with Shinobu up front. Fortunately for the girls, the anime Goddess of Fortune shines her smile down upon them, with Karen, Shinobu and Aya finding themselves seated consecutively in a column.

Now Shinobu can stare at blonde hair all day during lessons, and she can also fondle it to her hearts content... and that's why Aya is seated behind her. Any suspicious signs, or notion of wanting to caress blonde hair are immediately beaten down by Aya's temperament, not to mention she's moody due to Yoko's absence.

May I also point out the above Cloud Nine magic which happened, when Shinobu from another class, somehow ends up seated with Alice...

Middle School Second Year Syndrome???                         Not in my Kiniro Mosaic!!!

*cough* Sword Art Online *cough*

*cringe* Chuunibyou Demo Koi Ga Shitai *cringe*

Look, there's a limit to how far you can copy an idea, but Karen's Chuunibyou attire has the same old eyepatch, and leg bandages Rikka Takanashi donned during her spell as the 'Tyrant's Eye', with the only subtle difference being a back scratcher rather than a gothic lolita umbrella. Also, I'd like to opine that the umbrella was definitely the better weapon.

However, Karen's satanical musing served to inspire great storytelling from the rest of the cast, for which I could dedicate an entire section to. In short, nothing plot essential happens, and the story itself plagiarised from many fairy tales. I'm pretty sure you'd be familiar with those stories to the point I don't have to give you a detailed recount for the millionth time. Also, that massive audience at the end. Seriously? Though Shinobu's fairy tale remix was certainly enthralling.
