Magical Star Kanon 100% - 1

I cried because I couldn't find a decent, confetti-free shot
Being an avid fan of the TWGOK franchise, I always had my eyes on the Magical Star Kanon 100% anime, especially after the pilot chapter first debuted. Interestingly, despite being quite fascinated with TWGOK, the hype surrounding it always remained a mystery to me. It all seems rather run-of-the-mill, yet it manages to bring together so many random elements into probably the most prominent Harem series at the moment. Magical Star Kanon is equally as random, if not even moreso. Expect a world of magic and adventure up ahead.

Loli Kanon takes kawaii to new extremes
To surmise, Kanon Nakagawa, a heroine from TWGOK, gets her own spin-off in which she's a magical girl. An attack by a runaway spirit leaves her in a child-like state just before her 'Sisters Audition', leaving her completely exposed and vulnerable. However, the runaway spirit morphs into an impostor, seeking to emotionally hurt the young girls who've come to audition for the role of Kanon's little sister in order to gain power. There is almost nothing Kanon can do, since she has no way of revealing the impostor in her childlike state. However, her songs positive energy can defeat the negative energy of the runaway spirit, which is the fundamental cliché of any magical girl series. Then, she transforms into a magical girl... followed by a song which defeats the runaway spirit. I actually really enjoyed the songs, but the whole premise just caused me to facepalm. I'm still new to this kind of stuff.

Prepare for the tentacle-rape
Spin-offs tend to be risky in the long term. Their success rates aren't assured, and the chances mostly ride off of the fame generated by the initial series. The even bigger risk that comes with it is when another series decides to release a spin-off pertaining a similar nature in the same season. Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya is one such example, and even if Magical Star Kanon were to outshine it, the damage of having competition will reflect regardless. In conclusion, I really enjoyed this OVA, and would definitely watch the rest when they come out. You don't even have to possess background knowledge of TWGOK. Anyone can pick up this show, and watch it for fun.

I approve of Magical Star Kanon
