Tamayura More Aggressive - 1

A Year Since Being Welcomed Home, so...

When you finish daydreaming, and turn around, this is the last thing you expect
Having already acquainted myself with the original anime release for Tamayura, I was already familiar with the series. Tamayura is a Slice of Life, which is blighted by moe overdose, something that's currently plaguing the industry (I'm looking at you, KyoAni). I'll admit with great reluctance, and guilt, that I still find moe animes to be quite healing. Generally, there isn't much to discuss when it comes to shows like this, since slice of life is a genre known for its... lack of plot progression. This is like Marmite. You either love the detailed examination of the protagonists life, or hate how tortuously long something can go without any developments.

Obviously, I don't deviate towards any extreme in this regard, and have never really paid serious attention to pacing. If anything, I'm a heavy critic of art, and also highly value the mood created. Slice of Life tend to have rather pleasant, relaxed art, to go with the pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. This combination is a complete killer in my books, that is to say it usually hits the criteria for an anime I enjoy. Without further ado, I'll go on to explain the pointless ongoings in this episode, as well as my opinions overall.

This moment was PURE GOLD
First of all, an incredibly important element to many Slice of Life animes is the dynamic in relations between the protagonist, and her group of friends. Shows can literally be made, or broken this way. Quite thankfully, the interaction between Fu and her friends is lighthearted, and fun, though there is nothing refreshingly new. I have to say, I was deeply moved by everyone's concern over Fu's wellbeing. She's a well-loved girl, and is lucky to have all the friends she has. They do overreact, leading to short bursts of comedy. But other than that, there isn't too much, and the whole atmosphere is really tame. Ironic, isn't it? Especially once we consider it would seem the aim is to be more 'Aggressive', something which is even highlighted in the title.

I think Norie just got beaten by Tomo...
Just how Fu's photos give other people a warm, fuzzy feeling, Tamayura itself instills a warm, fuzzy sense into me. Despite her father dying, Fu manages to remain bright and upbeat, bringing happiness to the people around her (and me as well). It's this type of character, one who subconsciously refuses to back down in the face of tragedy, that is truly admired by us. What's more, she's truly passionate about photography to the extent it has become an inherent part of her life. Someone aspiring to achieve their goal is always a person worth watching, if not wonderful to say the least, especially if their friends are backing them all the way. Ah, friendship is such a beautiful thing. Starting a club is the first step she's taking, and it'll be interesting to see what happens next. That mysterious girl who was hiding behind the lamp post looks like she'll be getting some screen time once everything begins to kick off.

That Camera was made to be in her hands
Unfortunately, that's about it for the review. My memory of the original season seems to have failed me, as I can only vaguely grasp at the events that unfolded during the flashback, along with their significance. Tamayura is the ultimate Slice of Life show this season. However, I'm afraid you'll have to watch the first season to understand any context. Other than that, I highly recommend it to any lover of Slice of Life (or just cute moe girls).
