Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku - 1 (First Impressions)

Nice Pose
So, I'm not usually a fan of the SoL genre, but there are some exceptions to that rule. This will not be one of them. Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku (or KKK for short, nice choice of name guys) follows the main character, who I will call StupidHair seeing as she's so bland that I could not for the life of me remember her name, and her friends, the soft-spoken moe one, the rich classy one, the cool one, and the eccentric club leader (aka Sailor Moon) and their everyday antics in the pointless "Going Home Club." Hmm, this all seems oddly familiar. I think it's meant to be a comedy as well, but I honestly couldn't tell.

No Sailor Moon no!
So the first episode pretty much focuses on introducing all the characters and all their backstory, and has apparently made it it's mission to make them all seem as generic and boring as possible. I'm gonna go ahead and say it right now, there is nothing new or original about this show. It feels like a mish-mash of other popular SoL anime all bundled into one. More than anything, they've tried to replicate the pace and episode structure of Lucky Star, but messed it up by 1) making all the characters as flat and bland as tea without milk or sugar or any actual tea for that matter and 2) trying to have some kind of story progression throughout the show. What you end up with is a jumble of seemingly random and horribly forced "jokes" in between some boring character introduction.

Seriously, this is meant to be funny?

I could go on about all the problems with the show, but I think it's best for everyone if I just give some final thoughts and wrap this up. It's not very good at all. The humour is poorly done, inconsistent, forced and resorts to the general "heres a wacky story that the main character shouts overreactions to." It's not even that it's not to my taste, because I've been able to see the appeal of shows I didn't like before, and I can see that everything this show tries to do it does badly. I would really not recommend this, unless you're dying for something to watch and have exhausted all other possible options. Seriously, there are so many anime that acomplish what this show is trying to do but much better. So will I be watching KKK? Nope. Dropped at the speed of light.
