Danganronpa - 4

First of all, I want to apologise on how late this review is, and for the lack of pictures. I don't want to spend too long explaining why it is late, so I'll just keep it short – I'm in Spain right now, and my access to the web is limited. So anyway, without further ado, lets dive into the review of the fourth episode of Danganronpa.

This episode is quite good, but for me, there's a nagging issue that I cannot ignore. So, what's good about this episode? We learn more about the personalities and attitudes of the other characters, such as Togami, and it has a fair share of moments with hilarity. Some of the characters also bring up some really interesting points. The conclusion of the episode was quite thought provoking as well, and it builds up the hype for the next episode quite well.

What are the negatives? The main issue here is that the second half of the episode just feels a little rushed. A few important events are introduced and just happen too quickly, in my opinion. However, its that kind of issue that plenty of people won't mind – it just bothers me. To explain it, I need to go into the plot, which I will leave for the synopsis. There isn't really much else to complain about with this episode, though.

After Kuwata is executed, the second floor opens. Monobear explains that everytime a murder takes place and the culprit selected by the other characters is correct (if they are wrong, everyone dies anyway), a new floor of the facility opens. This includes a library and a pool (with changing rooms of the respective genders). This part is mainly character development.

In the second half, Monobear announces that he knows every candidates embarrassing memories, and throws out cards with each persons memory on them. The respective owners retrieve their cards, and then Monobear announces that if nobody kills in 24 hours, their secrets would be revealed to the world. Surprise, surprise! The next morning, Togami and Naegi find Fujisaki crucified (obviously dead) in the girls' changing room, with a message left behind.

After an investigation, Togami tells Naegi about how the murder shows similarities to the murders carried out by the serial killer, Genocider Syo. Togami then proves that the real Genocider Syo is actually among the participants. After this, they find Fukawa in her bedroom, who says to Togami that she won't let the real Genocider Syo run free anymore. Monobear then announces to everyone that the classroom trial is about to begin. If anything, this is getting tense.

What's the verdict on the fourth episode of Danganronpa then? Apart from my issues with the second half, its quite good, and just like the second episode, sets up the next episode (which is a classroom trial) really well. This gets a firm recommendation from me.
