Gen'ei o Kakeru Taiyō - 7

An iron clad rule in this series is that the Tarot is almost never wrong, and is the universal principal holding all things together, so what should one make of it when it predicts an apocalypse? Usually, people would just simply sit down in exasperation, and wait for the end to wash over them, but not our Magica Quartet. With events being set in motion by the annihilation of the Tarot 'Lovers', readers, and everyone alike, prepare for any potential oncoming tragedy. It's bound to happen.

We're set off on a climactic elevator ride, which isn't complete without the calm before the storm, hence our brief respite of Slice of Life. I don't quite understand why, but to me, there's so much appeal in watching a bunch of youngsters living out their everyday life. Of course, in this case, normal does not apply to being our Magica Quartets daily life. However, just seeing what they could've usually been makes you question the necessity for them to take on their burden. Some people are tied to an individual destiny which is immutable, and all people are tied to the inalterable fate of death: It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are. Plagiarizing Mewtwo (and Gamfreak) asides, these girls have chosen a task heroic, and have condemned themselves to a fate of despair, whilst becoming the hope and light of their world. Very cliched, huh?

Surprisingly, the tarots were used rather effectively to foreshadow upcoming events.  This is probably the only time I’ve ever seen fortune-telling used to good effect (to me). Not that it isn’t used all the time, I just think that fortune-telling is a load of superstitious bull, so it’s only in a world where it has already been established that fortune-telling is real that it works. This is a play towards the shows own strength, and though it's not exactly unexpected, that’s fine so long as it works. They did it before, whatever they're foreshadowing became blindingly obvious, as proper foreshadowing should be.

While I expect some pretty crazy things next episode, don't forget about Luna, who seems as if she's going to go full Yandere.
