Blood Lad - 1 (First Impressions)

So, this isn't quite what I expected, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Just a side note, what is with this season and great OPs? It feels like every show I've watched so far has a really good OP. So, Twilight Blood Lad, the story of a teenage vampire who falls in love with a human girl after she accidentally stumbles into his world. Now dont pack up your things and leave quite yet, it's not that bad, honestly.

I've seen enough hentai...
So, what is Blood Lad really about? Well, Staz is just your typical teenage vampire living in a demon world. He's the boss of a territory, and so is extremely powerful, with people constantly trying to kill him. Oh and did I mention he's a Weeaboo and a NEET and adores humans despite having never seen one before? So you can imagine his excitement when a japanese highschool girl accidentally ends up in the demon world, and his disappointment when she gets eaten by an evil plant demon. So he vows to go on a quest to bring her back to life.

"No, mai waifu..."
So what did I think of it? Well, it wasnt bad actually. While it has a fair amount of potential to be cool and funny, it could also flop like Ixion Saga DT did, so I'll have to wait a few episodes before I can form a full opinion on it. This first episode was pretty cool, and the designs of some of the demons are nice. The main problem I have is that Staz is really the only interesting character in the show. His love interest seems to just be there to be his love interest and to provide fanservice, and almost every other character doesn't seem to be here to stay. What will be kinda cool is looking for game and anime references throughout the series, such as the Rei Ayanami doll on his shelf about 40 seconds in and the dialogue references to Final Fantasy and Dragon Ball to name but a few.
