Last week, I praised the first episode of Danganronpa, and now I'm back to review the second episode, and the following episodes until series concludes. So, without further ado, lets dive into it.
The episode starts with Makoto, in his room. Monobear announces that everyone has been supplied with weapons, perfectly suitable for murder - fantastic. He is then approached Maizono, who complains about her bedroom door constantly clattering. She then requests a room swap, and Makoto being the soft twerp he is approves of it. After moving to her room, he goes to sleep.

Hey baby, you want to... Stay in my room? ;)
|
Makoto wakes up and meets up with Ohgami, Asahina, Ishimaru and Fujisaki to eat breakfast. The other characters also drip in to the breakfast hall, one after another. By the end, there are only two people left - Togami, who arrives soon after, and Maizono, who does not appear. Makoto rushes to "his" room, and finds the walls have been torn and the furniture is all over the bloody place. Maizono is not present, and the only place left is the bathroom. Makoto walks in, and oh, what a surprise! She's lying, dead, impaled with a sword. Makoto screams a little and then loses consciousness.

And here's our crew, all assembled. The bad news is, they are unaware of what just happened... |
He wakes up in the gym with the rest of the cast, who reveal that Monobear had forced them to assemble there. Monobear appears and explains he would never kill one of the participants, as you know, it would ruin the game, and that one of the 14 living students must have done it. After some pointless accusations are thrown around, Monobear announces some new rule - the only way to graduate is if you kill a fellow student AND do not get caught or accused in the process. After the students investigate the evidence, a class trial is held - if they find the true culprit, then the culprit is executed and the students are fine. However, if they pick the wrong person, everyone apart from the culprit is executed. I hope all the kids there played Ace Attorney. This angers Enoshima. Monobear taunts her, but she just steps on him, except, well, it backfires. Monobear repeats the rule that you are not allowed to attack him, and then, we have the least random death ever, where Enoshima is stabbed by several spears on the spot.

Oops, look like I just died. |
It is then information appears on all their PDAs, showing them a bunch of information on how Maizono was murdered (where the corpse was found, how she was killed etc). Naturally, is shows she died in Makoto's room. Whoops. Everyone instantly suspects Makoto, who tries to explain that he swapped rooms with Maizono, but no one buys it. If anything, he's dug himself in a lovely hole now. After some investigation, evidence seaching and Makoto moaning, Monobear tells everyone that the school trial is about to commence. Everyone assembles in a lift, which is meant to take them to the courtroom, and after a few lines of dialogue, and Makoto uttering some cliched one liners, the episode ends.

All the gym leaders in one place... |
This episode was definitely quite good, mainly because how well it sets up episode 3. I am incredibly excited for next Friday to come along so I can see the outcome of the trial, and who the murderer was. It also shows how powerful Monobear is, and the control he is exerting over his "lab animals". Overall, a great watch. I would definitely recommend this.

An exciting episode that sets up its follow up incredibly well. Watch it. |
