Shingeki no Kyojin - 12

The episode starts in despair, where the last one left off, with Eren’s Titan form attacking Mikasa.  It should be clear by now that Murphy’s Law is in full effect, as should be expected.

Dot Pixis has some inspiring words to say about not letting deaths be in vain, though unfortunately the Sunk Cost Fallacy does not save lives at all.  As it is, however, he may be right, in that if mankind loses here, they lose for good.

Well Done, Captain obvious

The elite squad leader, Ian, seconds this position, saving Eren at the cost of more lives, because he realises that Eren is likely mankind’s best hope for survival.  Let that sink in a bit...

Ian and Rico resolve not to die without a fight, Rico taking it a step further and saying she’ll ‘show them how dreadful humans can be’.  This feels like foreshadowing, especially with the connection between Titans and humans already in place.  The correlation between Eren and his Titan’s desires suggests to me that if humans are similarly inside other Titans, they may be partially responsible for the Titans’ desire to attack humans.  Jealousy at the living, perhaps?

Eren’s inability to regenerate while conscious is interesting, suggesting that Titans’ power may come from a harnessing of the subconsciousness.  It also puts a damper on any plans involving Human/Titan hybrids in complex ways, though the Preview suggests that Eren may be able to function regardless.

Eren’s peaceful dream inside the Titan was VERY interesting.  It sparked a number of new theories for me: firstly, that the Titans facilitate pleasant experiences for their hosts suggests to me that the may have been designed for this purpose, a sort of utopian stasis designed to keep humans happy and alive forever.  The Titans have already been shown not to need sustenance, and do not die on their own, suggesting highly advanced technology in line with a civilization that might create a utopian singularity-esque device.

Eren had too much magic mushrooms

This is supported by the very fact that humans can generate Titans – the technology Eren’s father uses on him is likely left over from this civilization, as is whatever is in the basement.

It also provides an explanation for why Titans eat humans, since it is very possible that these humans then form their own Titans.  A sort of self-replication conversion system.

The whole situation worries me, in that if this is the case, killing Titans denies the human inside a lifetime (or eternity) of happiness.  (Because I’m assuming that the weak points do indicate Humans inside)

The good guys might very well be the bad guys, and vice versa.

It is, however, likely that I’m completely insane, and that all of my theories are incredibly wrong.  Meh.
