I'm One with the Blade
Dual wielding has (unfortunately) become quite the trend lately, with the likes of SAO coming to mind. Hope it won't be as overpowered as Kirito's one was. Speaking of which, I actually found it to be the most interesting part of this week's chapter, though I'll have to wait and see before making an overall judgment. Though some people would say it was generally anti-climactic, that was expected considering the peak of the story was last chapter's revelations. Many questions are open to speculation, especially those regarding the true nature of Ichigo's new powers.
Enough to evaporate an entire sea, but these people remain unscathed.... |
So far, it's been confirmed that his reiatsu is such that an entire sea evaporated in order to cool down the intense heat produced by it. His cool factor just rose a couple of degrees. Have to say, it was the most exciting sword draw in all of manga. This possibly means that Ichigo will wield a fire-based Zanpakuto, similar to the late Captain Commander. Kubo would be making a mistake if he tried to make Ichigo an archetype of Yamamoto in terms of power, seeing as by this point, it's obvious Ichigo's potential strength vastly surpasses that of the Captain Commander. Despite having yet to reveal his new powers, he's certainly going to be significantly stronger now with his true abilities now manifested.
They covered the sword in fire, so we couldn't see what was going on |
Most importantly, this chapter covers the fact Ichigo has come to accept the two parts of himself. Before, lack of knowledge in regards to his past prevented him from accepting his quincy powers. But once things came to light, he was able to accept the lost half of Zangetsu, thus reuniting the fragments of his soul. In doing so, he is able to wield the two parts of his soul: Hollow, and Quincy. I certainly imagine Ichigo's bankai could possibly be a single blade, since when Ichigo fought Zangetsu to learn Final Getsuga Tensho, Whitey and Juhagetsu fused in order to stop him. I'd love to see Ichigo being able to switch between Dual Wield, and having a single blade during his Bankai.
...and the sea parted, just as Moses parted the Red Sea |
Returning to the new Shikai, it would seem the Quincy Blade is the one on the left, and the Hollow Blade is on the right. The reason I would make such a statement is that the left blade looks remarkably like the Dussack, an old German Sword, which I think is a blatant attempt to make an association with his Quincy powers. Interestingly, the Hollow Blade has a large hole, something all Hollows have. Will we have to go through yet another 100 chapters, where Ichigo has to train in order to master his newfound powers? Considering the Arrancar Arc lasted for about 10 years, maybe it will be along way to go before Bleach is over.

Very interestingly for me, I actually called dibs on the dual wield aaaaages ago (as Cynical Terrorist can verify, it was back when Ichigo went full Hollow to defeat Ulquiorra). However, I was slightly off, speculating Ichigo would dual wield Bankai, and a Hollow Ressurecion release state, rather than his quincy powers. That would've been a difficult call, seeing as anything about Ichigo's mother was obscure, and who would've thought Ichigo's Shinigami powers were from his hollow this whole time??? All in all, I still managed to get a prediction somewhat right, and look forwards to the coming developments. Tite Kubo still has his touch, and Bleach is in safe hands, with an almost assured, flawless ending.
